The 14th edition of the East Africa Local Authorities Cultural Association ( EALASCA ) games commenced with enthusiasm at the Hamz Stadium (Nakivubo War Memorial Grounds) on Tuesday, 25th February 2025.
Minister of Kampala City and Metropolitan Affairs, Hajjati Minsa Kabanda, led the inaugural ceremony alongside KCCA Executive Director Sharifah Buzeki, emphasizing the games’ role in promoting unity and development among East African cities.
The event symbolized shared aspirations within East Africa, highlighting regional cooperation and camaraderie.
KCCA ED Buzeki emphasized the significance of the games as a platform for fostering unity and collaboration among participating cities, beyond just a sporting competition.
In the opening matches, Kenya dominated the Tug-of-war competition against Uganda, winning in both the men’s and women’s categories. The football fixture saw CASA (Kenya) triumph over KCCA Political with a 3-1 victory, showcasing resilience and strategic gameplay on the field.
Post-match reflections
Following the matches, CASA team manager Hon. Mohammed Dudu expressed satisfaction with their performance, highlighting their adaptability and tactical adjustments during the game.
The matches set the stage for upcoming indoor games and continued football fixtures, promising further excitement and spirited competition at the EALASCA Games.
The EALASCA Games, a regional sporting initiative, align with the vision set forth by the 20th EAC Council of Ministers to promote sports tournaments regularly.
With participation from cities across East Africa, including Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Burundi, the games serve as a platform for sportsmanship, cooperation, and community engagement in the region.
