Gospel singer Exodus has revealed that he’s embarked on a campaign to create mental health awareness, especially among the youth. The singer himself has been a victim of mental health struggles.
A while ago, he revealed that he almost committed suicide due to these struggles. They were induced by the difficulties he was going through and were made worse by drug abuse.
The singer managed to obtain some help and eventually overcame the struggles. He feels that he has a part to play in helping other people to overcome it.
The singer said that after he came out, thousands of people came out to commend him for his bravery. Some told him they were also facing the same things but were afraid to come out due to fear of stigma.
Additionally, the Igwe singer said that mental health is still a topic that hasn’t been taken seriously in Africa and Uganda in particular. This is yet one of those things that bother people a lot.
The singer went ahead to say that the trend is a lot in the creative industry pointing out Dr Propa. Luckily for him, Eddy Kenzo and the federation gave him quick help.
“Mental health is one of those things that is bothering people in Africa and Uganda a lot. It has not yet been given priority. After I came out and spoke about my struggles, I received immense support and voices saying that they are going through the same. I therefore feel that we need to raise awareness and support people going through such difficulties.”
