A new set of club captains has been unveiled by Uganda’s oldest football club, Express FC. The Red Eagles announced four players to the club’s captaincy ahead of their UPL season opener.
Ramzy Kawooya, who just joined BUL FC, who has been the club captain will be replaced as the first team captain by midfielder Emmanuel Wasswa, according to the Mukwano Gwabangi side.
After spending a half-season with Express FC the previous season and then returning to KCCA FC in January of this year, Wasswa is making his second appearance at the club.
This time, he signed a two-year contract to rejoin the seven-time League winners, where he will be taking on the role of captain.
Wasswa’s immediate assistant will be defender Derrick Ngobi. He is also returning to Express FC following a brief stint with Kenya’s Sofapaka.
The third captain will be veteran midfielder Saidi Kyeyune, who joined Express FC from URA FC, while the fourth captain will be youthful player John Asiimwe.
Express FC, led by coach Baker Mboowa, will be looking to start the season strong at Nakivubo Hamz Stadium. This is their new home as they host new league entrants, Mbale Heroes.
The club has been hosting its games at the Muteesa II stadium in Wankulukuku for the time it has been in the league.
However, the stadium’s situation won’t allow both Express and Villa to host games from there. It’s undergoing renovation for now.
Meanwhile, there will be two other games today. Current champions SC Villa will host Mbarara City while Police will host BUL FC.
