“I am here to commiserate with members who lost dear ones and extend support of shs5 million shillings to each of them so that it can support them in burial arrangements and other emergencies they incurred because of this unfortunate incident. The president feels it is important to support the bereaved families with the shs5 million,” Alupo said while visiting the scene.
She explained saying that the Shs5 million is for each individual who died during the stampede. Therefore, if a family lost two people, that means the money will go to sh10 million.
VP Jessica Alupo held a private meeting with the families of the deceased. During this time, she delivered condolences from the government and from President Museveni.
The VP had in her company Maj Gen Tumsuime Katsigazi, the Deputy Inspector General of Police. She also had other senior police commanders accompany her. She further pledged to the families that justice will prevail through a thorough investigation.
“We pledge to do thorough investigations and produce a detailed report about what caused the stampede,” VP Alupo said.
At the moment, 10 people in total died in the new year Freedom City stampede while eight others have been discharged from the hospital.
