Families of two Ugandan youths who went missing in Bugoloobi in 2020 are still stranded after a long time search for them for close to two and a half years with no trace.
According to some of the relatives we managed to interview with names withheld alleged that Vincent Nalumaso a former motorist mechanic at Bugoloobi market and Martin Lukwago a fish monger in the same market were abducted by security operatives on November 23,2020 and Dec 1, 2020 respectively who whisked them away in a vehicle commonly known as “drones” to unknown places and there mystery still remain uncertain.
A 70 year old Mary Naluboiga who raised Lukwago said she was distressed about her nephew’s disappearance because he helped her with everything from food since she can no longer work.
“ I have a huge problem since my nephew went missing because he was the only one I was left with since all my children died,” said Nalubooga.
Consequently Naluboiga and family claim that their member didn’t have any known bad character at the time he went missing and she expressed more disappointment with Bugoloobi police station for not being helpful in handling the matter.
Lukwago left them with children
“ we are not sure if they are alive or dead. If they are alive let them be brought back or taken to court if they have a case to answer. If they are dead, we should be told ,”said Lukwago’s Aunt Sarah Wanyana.
Meanwhile she added that Lukwago left them children aged 7,11,and 14 whom they are still struggling to take care of.
Consequently Ms Najjuka Dorothy a food vendor said the situation is no more different since her brother Nalumaso was whisked away.
“ The situation in the family changed completely and there is no happiness any more. His disappearance brings tears our hearts and we wonder what we can do,” said Najjuka.
Meanwhile on May 29, Nusifah Nabasiita the Bugolobi LC 3 Councillor urged all residents with credible information about the missing persons to inform the authorities or to their families.
Oweyesigyire told them to go to CID headquarters
“ These families have even received strangers who come to threaten them with the intention of stopping the search for their people,” Nusifah said.
Meanwhile we tried to reach the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesman Luke Oweyesigyire for comments about the case he said that he had no idea about the matter.
“ Let the family go to CID headquarters and may be the Human Rights Commission if at all they have any idea regarding if their people were arrested or not ,” said Luke Oweyesigyire.
Meanwhile since 2019, several people have been reported missing after a wave of arrests prior post election Uganda although some of them have been arraigned before courts of law and other released.
In addition some have never been traced by their relatives despite parties pilling pressure on government to free what they describe as political prisoners
