The NUP principal argued that government should cut taxes on wheat. This is because chapati is derived from it and most urban dwellers consume it. Furthermore, Bobi Wine said that the fact that President Museveni told people to eat cassava shows how detached he is from the common man’s reality.
His remarks left widespread opinions with some consenting to his comments whereas others bashed him saying that he is also detached from reality. This is because chapati is not a national food.
Others like Faridah Nakazibwe were left wondering if the delicacy is indeed essential. She took to her Twitter to ask her followers who hit back at her.
“Is chapati an essential item?” she tweeted.
This brought in a barrage of comments with some going as far as insulting her. Some even wondered why she would question Bobi Wine yet she was one of those hyping him prior to the elections.
“Is food an essential item. Hajjati tewasuliika. Bruno k akuzukuse toffuka kubuliri. Wheat , maize flour all are food in themselves,” a user decided to bring in the TV presenter’s alleged boyfriend.
“Just because you have money to buy expensive food doesn’t mean that 90% of the people that watch your shows can afford all that ….. Apparently, where in your day don’t you use wheat Sometimes stick to the things that can make sense if you are paid to object facts,” another said.
“Omanyi mwerabira nyo , a person who failed to know a man she got married to, can’t know chapati is an essential item.”
