Some of the villages affected most include Nyakasharara, Kihengamo, Omukatojo, Rwerere, Nyarutare, Kabagahe, among others. These are all in Rubanga Parish.
According to the residents, the downpour occurred on Saturday at around 3:30 pm and lasted for one hour. However, over 1,500 households lost their crops including banana plantations, tomatoes, cassava, and potato gardens respectively.
Joy Kamusiime, Evas Binunu, and Kyomugisha Evalyne, all residents of Kihengamo cell and are victims of the hailstorm.
They told reporters that they are worried about their next mode of survival since most of them have been surviving on these gardens to feed their families and School fees.
Another victim explained that following the destruction of his banana plantation, how he will repay his bank loans worries him. This is because he expected money from the plantation.
The farmers called upon the government to intervene before the situation worsens because the plantations happened to be their main source of income.
This is the first area to face the effects of this calamity in Rukungiri district since the year began.
