Musician Cindy Sanyu who also doubles as the head of the Uganda Musicians Association (UMA) has revealed that the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) fell into their business of copyright law.
Cindy has made it no secret to express her dislike for the Federation led by Eddy Kenzo. Despite talks between the groups to reach a compromise, Cindy and the faction seem unconvinced.
One of the issues the Federation has made itself conversant with is the copyright law. According to different musicians who subscribe to it, they feel that they need this law quickly.
Once it is achieved, then musicians’ financial woes will be a thing of the past.
The Ayokyayokya singer while on Galaxy FM said that they have already been working on the copyright law. It is in fact in its last stages. And whether with the Federation or not, they will work on it to completion.
“As UMA, we’ve been handling the copyright issue and we are in the final stages. Whether the federation is there or not, the copyright law will be amended,” she said.
There are now 3 groups fighting to have the copyright law passed. And this might lead to a struggle for bragging rights.
Besides the Federation and UMA, there is the political wing that subscribes to singer/politician, Bobi Wine. This is led by MPs Hon Hilary Kiyaga aka Dr Hilderman and singer Hon Geoffrey Lutaaya.
This group too has a number of musicians that believe in them. They also seem to have the social media streets in their side especially owing to their allegiance to NUP.
