Female Factory Workers At Risk In Mukono District

A distressing surge of gang rapes targeting female factory workers in Mukono District has plunged the community into a state of fear and uncertainty. These vicious attacks are occurring as victims make their way to the Mbalala Industrial Park, instilling a pervasive sense of dread among residents.

The unsettling assaults, which have escalated in frequency over recent weeks, predominantly occur along secluded pathways to and from work.

Perpetrators strike during the early morning or late evening hours, taking advantage of the sparsely populated roads to carry out their heinous acts.

Betty Nabatanzi, a concerned local resident, has brought to light the alarming reality that more than 10 female factory workers have fallen victim to rape and robbery in the area.

Despite efforts to raise awareness and seek intervention from local authorities, the community remains frustrated by the lack of decisive action to quell the escalating violence.

Deception and disguise: Tactics of the criminals

Beatrice Miyamba, echoing the sentiments of many residents, sheds light on the deceptive tactics employed by the assailants. By masquerading as women and donning skirts and dresses, the perpetrators manipulate their appearance to lower the guard of unsuspecting victims, enabling them to launch surprise attacks along the route.

Miyamba’s urgent plea for revised working hours underscores the pressing need to safeguard workers who face constant peril during their early morning and late-night commutes.

In a display of remarkable bravery, an anonymous survivor has bravely shared her harrowing account of a traumatic assault following a grueling shift.

Confronted by a group of assailants, she found herself overwhelmed and defenseless in the face of such brutality.

Her trembling voice resonates with the collective call for enhanced safety measures within the community, underscoring the urgent imperative to address and combat the pervasive threat posed by these violent crimes.
