The two met to discuss several issues of mutual interest to both countries including bilateral relations.
In the meeting, Bagiire congratulated Kenya upon the successful elections they held in 2022. He additionally congratulated his counterpart on his appointment and assumption of the office of the Principle Secretary for Foreign Affairs.
Bagiire revealed his hopefulness in more engagements and deeper bilateral cooperation.
Bagiire informed his host that Uganda is in preparations to host the next Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) with Kenya. The JMC is scheduled to take place in August 2023.
He further addressed the issue of the forthcoming Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit and Group of Seventy-Seven Plus China (G77 + China).
These two events will be held back-to-back in Kampala in December 2023. Kenya and other member states will be invited to attend at the highest level.
Dr. Korir on his part gave the Ugandan delegation a warm welcome to Kenya. He appreciated President Museveni’s role in ensuring regional peace and also welcoming Uganda’s invitation to attend the proposed AMISOM summit, NAM, G77 and the JMC.
He informed the delegation that William Ruto, the Kenyan President will host a summit on climate change in September 2023.
Both secretaries emphasized the excellent bilateral relations between both countries. They also agreed to work hand-in-hand to constantly engage for regional peace and security.
