Former Minister Yona Kanyomozi To Be Buried On Friday

The former Cooperatives and Markets minister, Yona Kanyomozi, will be buried on Friday (September 2). This is according to a statement released by his family members.

A provisional burial program by the family says that they will hold the official vigil on August 30. This will happen at the home of the deceased in Mbuya, Kampala.

The family also said that the funeral service will take place on August 31, at All Saints Cathedral in Nakasero.

“After the funeral service, the body will be transported to his upcountry home in Rwashamaire, Kajara, Ntungamo district. Vigil in Rwashamaire, Kajara will be on Thursday, September 1, 2022 starting at 2:00pm. Burial will be on Friday, September 2, starting at 10:00am at his upcountry home in Rwashamaire, Kajara, Ntungamo district,” family members said in their statement containing the funeral programme.

Yona Kanyomozi died at the age of 82 on August 28 at Nakasero hospital in Kampala. Additionally, members of the family revealed that the late succumbed to cancer.

“He has been in-and-out of hospital for some time now over cancer-related illness,” a family member said on Sunday (August 28) shortly after his demise. 

A strong Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) supporter, Kanyomozi happened to be one of the key allies of former Ugandan President Dr Milton Obote in the greater Ankole region. He also taught President Yoweri Museveni at Ntare school.

Professor Apollo Nsibambi’s death

In similar news earlier reported by NEWSLEXPOINT.com, the former prime minister of Uganda, Prof. Apollo Nsibambi was reportedly dead at his home in Rubaga Division.

The 78 year old former Prime Minister, a father of four daughters and five grandchildren served as the chancellor of Makerere University from 2003 until 2007 October.
