Mr. Gabriel Engole, the Chairman of the Cooperative on Saturday 12th/11/2022 said that, in 2012 they started with thirty (30) members inclusive of nine (09) Board Members, but now have 252 members who are very active.
Other things that the Cooperative management asked were two Tractors, one Lorry for ferrying and transporting the commodities.
They will be majoring in bulking of the produce, marketing among others.
The Cooperative that’s built in Okuda parish in Ongongoja sub county is serving a total of 2,000 out growers in areas of Okulonyo and Usuk Sub counties and also in some parts of Napak District in Karamoja sub region.
During the commissioning, the Minister of Local Government Hon. Raphael Magezi said that, the construction of the Bulking Centre for fruit growers has costed the Ministry of local, under Legs project with support from Islamic development Bank the tune of 317 million shillings.
He asked the farmer to utilize the provided project and assured them of government’s commitment to providing them all they have requested.
The Vice president of Uganda, Jessica Alupo-Epel who was the chief guest urged the growers to stick by the Cooperatives principles in order to attain a better management and development.
She asked the public present to continue voting for NRM saying, its the only government that has stabilized Uganda mostly Katakwi in terms of Peace.
