Fuel Crisis Is Being Created Deliberately – Mubarak Munyagwa

Amidst the ongoing fuel crisis in the country which has seen fuel prices skyrocket to double from just 3 weeks ago, speculations have started floating on what could be the cause of this scarcity.

Former Kawempe South Mp, Hon Mubarak Munyagwa has come out to say that this scarcity is being created deliberately.

Munyagwa added that there is nothing like fuel scarcity in the country. It’s rather the small pumps without fuel whilst the big reserves are holding it to overprice it.

“There is no scarcity of fuel in this country. It’s the small pumps without fuel. People with big reserves are doing it deliberately to overprice the fuel,” Munyagwa said.

This is a notion that was seconded by NRM spokesperson Rogers Mulindwa. Mulindwa said that there is a motive by fuel owners to take advantage of every little issue about fuel.

“There is theft by the owners of big fuel reserves. I watched the news on NBS that in Hoima, a litre of fuel is up to UGX 10,000. Whenever these fuel owners sense a small issue about fuel, they always choose to take advantage of it,” Mulindwa said.

Meanwhile, the State Minister for tourism, Martin Mugarra said that the fuel crisis has been brought about by the COVID-19 testing of truck drivers at the border.

He assured that the fuel crisis won’t last more than a week.

“This fuel scarcity has been brought about by COVID-19 testing at the border. I want to applaud the Ministry of Health for the efforts they are making to test the truck drivers at the border. This fuel issue will be no more in a week.”

The prices have also seen most motorists park their cars and motorcycles at home in favor of public transport, footing or cycling. However, even the public transporters have increased their fares to match up the fuel prices.

This is not the first time that fuel prices are skyrocketing. NBS TV journalist through his Twitter page revealed that one of the fuel stations CEO’s in Kampala told him that this move is deliberate.
