The president of the Federation of Uganda Football Association (FUFA) Eng. Moses Magogo has hailed the current level of Ugandan football. This followed the wonderfully scored goal of Kitara FC forward Denis Omedi against KCCA FC in the FUFA Super 8 tournament.
This goal has now traversed the Ugandan football scene to a more global stage. Everyone is talking about it and many are even touting it as a major contender for the FIFA Puskas Award.
Magogo who has been at the helm of Ugandan football for over a decade now said that although he didn’t watch the game, it’s evident that more people are enjoying the games nowadays.
According to Magogo, fans are now coming to the stadiums in large numbers. Besides, the goal has sold Denis Omedi, the Uganda Premier League and the entire country at large. He added that this is the beauty of televised football.
Read his statement below;
“I did not watch the match live for some reason but I regret it. You can see that the games are interesting; the fans are coming out in large numbers and literally enjoying the action. This goal has sold Uganda, our football, the sponsors and everything that is carried in that clip of the goal. Even Omedi’s value is not the same after this goal. That is the power of sport combined with television.”
Additionally, the FUFA president said that Denis Omedi is a humble selfless player from the conversation he had with him. He is also down-to-earth, loyal and God-fearing.
Furthermore, Magogo said that success does not come accidentally but to those who are prepared and have worked for it. He went ahead to appreciate the entire Kitara FC fraternity, the fans, coach and staff for the work they are putting in.
