Gender Ministry Awards Best Performers

Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, (MGLSD) has retired some staff and awarded the best departments and outstanding staff in 2019.

This was done during the end of the year party held at the ministry headquarters most institutions and private sector break off fir festive season.

Outgoing Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development, Janat Mukwaya extended gratitude  and appreciation to the hardworking departments and staff for job well done.

Martin Wandera, a Director at the ministry and Chairman, Rewards and Recognition Committee  rewarded the department of Disability and Elderly stood out as the Best Performing Department of 2019 while the Employee of the year award was received by Paul Nepa for his core values of fairness, commitment, team player and strategic thinking.

He was followed by Daren Rutagwa as 1st Run-up and Venie Kabagenyi as 2nd run-up.

“After serving the Republic of Uganda, thank you for your great work you have performed successfully while with us,” Mukwaya  said.

Acting Permanent Secretary, James Ebitu identified ministry‘s main achievements namely processing of the People with Disability bill which was ascended to by the President and tabling other bills like NSSF Act amendment bill, labor disputes bill, among others.

He  further said his  ministry successfully achieved  rolling out of the Social Assistance Grant for Employment (SAGE) countrywide, scaling up of PWD grant with additional Shs2.1 Billion, designing Youth Livelihood prgramme (YLP) phase II, commissioning of rehabilitation centers across the country, signing of more bilateral ties with foreign countries for externalization of labour among other achievements.

Ebitu however said his ministry will focus on new commitments for the year 2020 which he says will be prioritized.

“All the departments have come up with commitments for 2010, among the priority areas we shall focus on phase II of the Youth Livelihood Programme, consolidate the SAGE programme in all districts, extend the labour professionals, apprenticeship and graduate volunteers programme among others,” he said.
