Kanyeihamba who is well versed with Philly’s music since he was in that era watered down Kenzo’s claims. He said that the Bolingo singer is a true definition of stupidity. And stupidity in this case is seeing and knowing the truth but still choosing to believe lies.
Therefore comparing Kenzo with the Alone and Frightened singer is abominable and forbidden. It’s like comparing Nigerian football great Jay Jay Okocha to Ugandan retired footballer Hakim Magumba. Magumba by Ugandan standard was a decent footballer. But comparing him to Jay Jay Okocha who inspired the likes of Ronaldinho might get you locked up.
“Stupidity is knowing the truth, seeing the truth but still believing in lies… Comparing Eddi Kenzo to Philly Bongole Lutaaya is like comparing Jay Jay Okocha with Hakim Magumba…,” said George Kanyeihamba.
It’s not only Kanyeihamba coming out to fire at Kenzo outside of the music arena. The likes of MP Betty Nambooze have all come out to criticize Kenzo for his remarks.
However, the entire interview of Kenzo shows him saying that none of Philly’s songs is bigger than his. This is not in terms of creativity, art or longevity but by social media streams which is quite true.
The singer added that he didn’t do the song to ride on Philly’s fame because he’s already famous. It was rather to sell Uganda and Philly to those who didn’t know the song and legacy.
A clip was however cut from the interview with Kenzo saying that his songs are bigger than Philly’s. And since Ugandans love violence, they have given him quite a keyboard beating.
