Kabale District: Baryamujura Joseph, the Chairperson of Buhara Sub-County in Ndorwa East Constituency, Kabale District has been accused of illegally leasing one and half acre of government land in Kijonjo cell.
He is also accused of conniving with the sub-county Chief, Kakuru Allen, to carry out this illegal act.
The councilors, as angry as they were, moved 5km on foot from the sub-county headquarters to the district. This is after the two failed to give them more insight into the leased land.
The Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Nyakahuma, addressed the angry sub-county councilors who had stormed his office.
He showed concern on how the chairman has refused to pick up his endless calls. Nyakahuma further said his efforts to call the chief as well were futile adding that he is ready to deal with anyone who will be found guilty of the offences.
The speaker of Buhara Sub-county, Hon Niwayamba Tophil, said that the public have been accusing him of keeping quiet on the allegedly sold government land. He also said the chairman and chief had signed the 20-year lease without the knowledge of the councilors.
When he tried to inquire from the sub-county chief, she disregarded the information even though the residents proved they has signed the lease.
Sub-county Councilors, Ahabwe Jacklyn, Akakwansa Elius and Dickson Katugwensi said that money from the disputed land could have helped them to renovate some roads in the sub-county. However, since the deal happened in error, they will not accept the deal.
They further expressed concern about the continued undermining and disrespect from the chairman. This especially happens on matters pertaining the Sub-County development.
The councilors added that they had notified him to escort them to the RDCs office. However, they got the shock of their lives when he never showed up not picking up the phone calls.
