Government Plans To Table Bill On Bail By End Of This Year

The government by the end of this year wants to table 35 bills including the bill on curbing bail for capital offenders. The Chief whip, Thomas Tayebwa revealed while speaking to journalists under their umbrella body, the Uganda Parliamentary Press Association (UPPA).

This bill was first talked about by the president who has insisted on it strongly.

This bill, though not yet tabled has caused a lot of talk in the political arena. Apparently, according to the opposition, it is being raised to launch an attack on them mostly.

However, even MPs from NRM have been hesitant in supporting this bill because it may catch up with them. Recently though, there was a rumour that NRM MPs have been ordered to support this bill when it is tabled.

Meanwhile, the government has so far tabled around ten bills in the August house. the National Social Security Fund Amendment Bill 2021, the Fisheries and Aquaculture bill 2021, the Landlord and Tennant’s bill 2021, the Supplementary Appropriation No.2 bill 2021, the Supplementary Appropriation No.3 Bill 2021 and the Physical Planners Registration Bill 2021.

Recently though, that Speaker Oulanyah nullified all the bills left hanging by the 10th Parliament. The government has not tabled some of these bills yet. However, chief whip Tayebwa says they are still assessing them.
