The NRM’s MP for Buyamba County, Hon Gyaviira Ssemwanga has hailed two of Uganda’s oldest political parties, DP and UPC for choosing service delivery over politics of defiance.
The MP while on a political talk show said these two parties have done exceptionally well. This is because instead of rupturing service delivery, they have instead concentrated on it.
This is a very positive thing owing to the fact that most prominent opposition parties have been involved in chaos with the ruling NRM government.
It should be noted that the DP president, Hon Nobert Mao is currently working with the government. He serves as the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs. Mao said that instead of opposing from the outside, he decided to work from within and bring about harmony.
On the other hand, UPC officials have worked in close tandem with the NRM. Besides Betty Amongi the wife of UPC leader, Jimmy Akena is the Minister of Gender, Labour and Social Development. Indeed they have not chosen to oppose the regime but rather collaborate with it.
“Some opposition parties like UPC and DP have chosen service delivery over defiance and are now serving the country in different capacities,” Gyaviira Ssemwanga said.
Meanwhile, Bukoto Central MP, Hon Richard Ssebamala who was also on this political talk show assured Ugandans that they are on their own. According to the MP, no one is coming to save them despite having hopes in some political figures.
“Ugandans are in pain, and no one is coming to their rescue, not the government, not even parliament. Ugandans are looking for someone who can rescue them.”
