Hon John Musila Urges MPs Not To Waste Taxpayers Money By Boycotting Parliament

Bubulo East MP Hon John Musila has urged his fellow MPs to stop wasting taxpayers money by boycotting Parliament. It should be noted that in the past several days, opposition MPs have skipped Parliament on purpose.

This is because of several issues such as lack of equality and violation of human rights of supporters of the opposition especially NUP.

Last week saw the opposition MPs square off with the government over their missing persons. A video that was supposed to be played to support their strong claim wasn’t played.

This is after the parliament staff meant to play it went missing. And also electricity briefly went off.

Opposition MPs therefore threatened to boycott the House sittings. Also owing to the fact that some of their fellows such as Hon Betty Nambooze, Hon Derrick Nyeko, Hon Francis Zaake, Hon Joyce Bagala were suspended by the deputy speaker Hon Thomas Tayebwa.

However, according to Musila, such behaviour affects the citizens. This is because an MP earns about Shs 2m in allowances. Therefore, whenever they don’t up in the house to collect this money, it’s the taxpayers losing out.

Shockingly, he also revealed that a billion shillings is spent on just a parliamentary sitting.

“Every sitting, MPs get up to UGX 2 million in allowances. We have more than 500 MPs, plus ex-officials. Over a billion is spent on MPs every sitting, and people have to know. This is taxpayers’ money. When we boycott, a taxpayer is losing money.”

This left social media users furious. First he sounded as if he was going to say ‘something sensible’ and ended up going to default MP settings according to these netizens.

Others even urged the President to dissolve the Parliament because it’s just a ‘wasteful institution.’
