My parents had a very big farm. So as we were passing by the field, I started telling my wife how we used to play in farms during ploughing season.
The conversation went on and my wife said wait a moment, you never told me about the farm. Look, you are spending thousands and thousands of money buying maize for Tashu milling, why can’t we plaugh our own maize.
A normal conversation automatically turned into a business discussion. My face immediately became serious and the tone of my voice changed. When I speak business I don’t play. We started planning and on our way back to town we passed through the field.
I drove directly at the center of the field and my wife was very excited with the new venture.
As from April 2020, we had spent more than 100k (US$) on purchasing maize only. If we had our own maize, we would have saved a lot.
We participate a lot in giving to the underprivileged, and we always buy, now if we can plaugh our own crops, we will give from our own harvest.
Immediately we started planning. We are going to start fencing the whole field because the fence that was there was stolen.
The last time this field was ploughed was somewhere around 1996. It’s now about 18 years this land laying idle. It means that the soil is very fertile now.
We are going to drill a borehole and make provision of irrigation in case there won’t be sufficient rains.
We are mainly going to plough maize, sugar beans, cabbages and onions.
It never crossed my mind that we can do farming until my beautiful wife brought up the topic.
Watch the space
I challenge you Today that look around yourself. What is available. There is always business opportunities that we are failing to identify. Sometimes you need someone to trigger the idea.
Let’s help each other to identify business opportunities just from within.
You don’t need to go abroad, there is a lot of business opportunities from within our areas of residence. Only if we can keep searching.
Sometimes we don’t see it because we are looking too far.
