In 2005, the Seventh Parliament scrapped the two-term presidential limit to enable Museveni stand for re-election.
“I loved the First Lady with all my heart. Unfortunately, the last time we had a personal conversation was before I refused to agree to the removal of term limits.”
In fact, she says at one point the president asked her if she will a manage to do anything with herself after leaving NRM.
“The last time I had a one-on-one with President Museveni, he asked me in Runyankole why I had decided to “waste” myself. He saw that by leaving him, I was torturing myself.”
Matembe is known for being very vocal about situations. When she doesn’t like something, she will decampaign it upfront.
When she says she wasn’t okay with the removal of term limits, there is surely no way she could have remained in good terms with the first lady and NRM as a party.
After leaving NRM, she remained an independent to the disappointment of many who thought she would join FDC at that time. With reasons she didn’t state, she said Independence was a better ground for her.
