NRM Secretary-General, Richard Todwong has said if Ugandans had adhered to the SOPs, they wouldn’t be facing abnormal hospital charges.
‘’This should also challenge us as politicians to assist the government in disseminating appropriate and key messages that are intended to help our people to appreciate the value of staying healthy,’’ he said after visiting National Medical Stores in Entebbe on Friday.
He further advised government and health officials to focus more on mechanisms to promote disease prevention.
He said this is better than finding a cure to a disease. These cures are usually very expensive and sometimes take time to develop.
More still, he told journalists that his visit aimed at identifying challenges the government body faces and see how he can help get solutions.
The Secretary-General also applauded NMS for being well equipped and organized.
Todwong said it gave him joy to see that the warehouses have all types of medicines. This is contrary to the claims by district health officials of lack of medical supplies.
However, he blamed the lack of coordination on the district health officials and leadership at NMS. He urged that there should be a cordial relationship between the two.
He also lashed at some leaders across the political divide whom he said rush to comment on medical issues with insufficient knowledge.
The General Manager at NMS, Mr. Moses Kamabare noted that they still face the challenge of drug theft from government facilities.
He said these drugs, despite labeling and tracking, end up in private health facilities and neighboring countries.
During the visit, NRM Director for information and public relations, Emmanuel Lumala Dombo accompanied the Secretary-General. A few other notable NRM senior party leaders were present.
