Guardiola explained that his remark about not facing the same fate as Mourinho, due to having six Premier League titles compared to Mourinho’s three, was merely “a joke.”
Mourinho, now the boss of Fenerbahce, reacted angrily, asserting that he “won fairly and clearly”. He further attributed City’s success to their 115 charges, which are presently under review by the Premier League.
Guardiola insists that City should be considered innocent until the Premier League proves otherwise. He remarked: “It was a joke, it was a joke, but he’s just another one on the large list that hopes the team ends up in League One or the Conference.

“I would tell Jose the same: we are innocent until proven guilty. After that, we will see what unfolds. He is just another one on the vast list in this country and beyond who wants us at the bottom. That’s fine, that’s okay. I’ve stated many times: wait for the verdict, and everyone, especially in a democracy, is innocent until proven guilty, right? We’ll wait and then we’ll see. The reality is he has three titles and I have six. That is a fact, but the intent was completely sincere.”
Guardiola expressed regret to Mourinho if he felt offended. He also chose not to comment on Arne Slot’s joke regarding the charges.
Slot made a light-hearted jab at Guardiola on Tuesday, suggesting that Mohamed Salah mentioned Sunday would be his last match against City at Anfield. This is because he expects them to be relegated due to the 115 charges.
“The joke from Arne Slot pertains to him, not to me,” Guardiola stated.
Guardiola noted that he and Mourinho belong to an exclusive group of four Premier League managers who have won three or more titles.
