Inter Miami Unsure Whether Lionel Messi Will Extend His Contract

MLS side Inter Miami is not sure whether their star player and captain, Lionel Messi will extend his contract at the club. Club co-owner Jorge Mas while speaking about the 37-year-old’s contract situation that expires in 2025 said that he expects to see the Argentinean playing at the Chase Stadium in 2026 although he’s not yet sure.

“I fully expect to see Messi playing in our new stadium in 2026,” he said.

The club signed the 8-time Ballon d’Or winner on a free transfer from PSG two years ago. He has been superbly incredible for them both on and off the pitch.

Messi has not only lifted the side to a title-winning one, he has also put them on the global footballing pedestal.

Before his arrival, Inter Miami was the weakest club in the MLS. Two years down the road, they have won some silverware and are one of the strongest sides in the league.

The club has also morphed into one of the most followed and supported clubs globally all thanks to the 2022 World Cup winner’s superstar status.

Apparently, it seems like Inter Miami appointed Messi’s former teammate Javier Mascherano to keep him in Florida. Mascherano was appointed by the club on a three-year contract to replace Tarta Martino who recently resigned from his role as the head coach.

Mascherano was Messi’s teammate at Barcelona and Argentina. Their relationship will be key for the former Barcelona ace to extend his stay on the South side of the country.
