Is President Museveni ‘s Move Not To Have Crowds A Good Idea?

His excellence, President Museveni decided that he will not have crowds beyond the number given to them by the electoral commission that is 200. He has bent on keeping all the SOPs set to curb the spread of COVID 19 to the dot. This is always so evident in his campaigns. Social distance, limited numbers, masks on among others.

This however is not the same case with all his counterparts who seem not to know about Covid 19. All of them are always entertaining huge crowds who have no masks on. SOPs in these rallies are as good as useless . If anyone with the virus shows up around the place, the infected people would be many in number.

Keeping all factors constant, we just can’t say if what Museveni is doing will yield good results on 14th of January 2021. Most people want to vote for people they can freely interact with. This is not the case with the president this time round because he never comes out of his car even when people chant his names. For most of the emotional voters who may take things personal, he always loses them at that point.

However, he has the media to use to reach more people. We could give him the benefit of a doubt if we compare him to the now President elect of USA, Joe Biden. He also refused to have crowds during his campaigns and he managed to win the elections. The only issue is that our politics is so different from the western politics.

All eyes are on January to watch and see if all these strategies laid by the candidates will mount up to something tangible.
