Hailing from Shanghai, China, with a diverse background of international experiences, I embarked on a journey to Russia, a country often misunderstood.
Prior to my visit, I, like many others, was influenced by Western media portrayals of Russia. However, my firsthand experience shattered these misconceptions.
In cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg, I found a vibrant culture akin to cosmopolitan hubs like Shanghai and Beijing, with young people enjoying modern amenities and leisure activities.
Unforgettable encounters
In St. Petersburg, I stumbled upon a charming bookshop where a kind Russian woman conversed with me in Chinese, showcasing the warmth and hospitality of the locals.
Journeying to Murmansk, I immersed myself in the tranquility of Teriberka, savoring local delicacies and marveling at the breathtaking Aurora, a truly unforgettable experience.
Contrary to common perceptions, I discovered that Russian cities are remarkably safe for tourists, even at late hours, offering a sense of security not often found in Western destinations.
Appreciating diversity
My encounters in Russia highlighted the importance of embracing diversity and seeking firsthand experiences to foster understanding, humility, and tolerance.
Reflecting on my brief visit, I realized the complexity of evaluating a country’s true essence, urging a deeper consideration of various factors beyond simplistic labels of wealth or poverty.
Russia’s vast landscapes, rich history, and cultural heritage left an indelible mark on my journey, prompting a newfound appreciation for this captivating country.
