He was known for his unwavering commitment to justice, human rights, and his outspoken criticism of the then-president, Idi Amin.
Luwum’s courageous stance against Amin’s regime ultimately cost him his life along side other two others Charles Oboth and col.Erinayo Oryema.
Memorialization plays a crucial role in ensuring that the sacrifices and contributions of individuals like Janani Luwum are not forgotten. It serves as a means of preserving their memory, educating future generations, and inspiring others to follow in their footsteps.
Through the establishment of the Janani Luwum Church House, a memorial center in Kampala, Uganda, his life and the principles he stood for continue to be commemorated.
The commemoration plays a key in raising awareness of the need to embrace government programs especially those that are social-economic to help alleviate poverty among victims,survivors and their entire communities.
Furthermore these memorials are important to create a sense of acknowledgement and inclusion for victims and survivors and promote individual change in attitude due to the peace message that was passed to the people as well as unifying engagements.
