Mixed Reactions As Joint Security Task Force Ordered To Enforce Mandatory Use Of Face Masks

The Joint Security Task force urged Ugandans to consider wearing face masks as per the president’s  directives as a way to limit the spread of the deadly virus.

The metropolitan police spokesman Fred Enanga pointed out a few things that will be followed during the ongoing lock down.

“We are happy that government has pledged to manufacture and distribute free, reusable standard face masks to all Ugandans from the age of 16,’said Enanga.

In a statement released this morning, Enanga says that the face masks will be delivered through the LC system by 2nd June 2020, then specified businesses like hotels, restaurants, private and public transport etc will be allowed operate.

“All members of the Joint Security Task force have been tasked to enforce the directive and further educate the public on the health and safety risks, as well as the potential consequences of not wearing face masks while in the public. A detailed enforcement program will be availed in due course” the statement reads.

Some people on social media kinda complained and asked why the president wants Ugandans to use only his certified face masks and yet they also have theirs.

Below are a few comments from social media fans

Use of masks isn’t a problem as long as people are free to use any kind of masks they can lay their hands for example homemade masks, others can cover their noses/mouth using handkerchief or bandannas or even scarfs. It’s not written anywhere that they have to only be government provided,’say it loud commented.

So have the so called standard masks been distributed to you the security already? If not what are you using to go out in public that other members of the public can’t get? The directives will be effective upon the completion of distribution of masks, meaning even if one gets the standard mask today, they have to wait until you announce that you have completed the distribution of the masks!!! Really Really Really???????,’Lindah Barrista commented

But what will happen if the only mask provided by Mr Museveni gets lost, stolen or damaged beyond repair?!!! Shall one stay at home & apply for the new mask?!! What if the mask is in yellow with a man wearing a round cap 🎩 & I’m allergic to yellow?!!,’Rona Dee commented.

It has taken 2 months to supply Kampala food. If it takes 60 days to supply 1 district, how many days will it take to supply 135 districts. 60*135 = 8100 days, 8100/7 = 1157 weeks, 1157/52= 22 years. So it will take 22 years for all the 135 districts to receive masks,’Richard Lubowa commented.
