“Yes, it is true, Ivan is gone,” Kaitesti told reporters early Friday morning.
The cause of death is still unknown. However, Kaitetsi said Ivan had been unwell lately.
“He has not been coming to work for the last two weeks. He was not doing fine,” Kaitetsi added.
Kakooza, who was in his early 40s, is said to have passed on at Mulago National Referral Hospital. His body is currently in the mortuary.
Kakooza was a creative and industrious entrepreneur. The businessman built Nexus bar from a ‘Kafunda’ into one of Uganda’s most visited nightspots.
His Business prowess
In just ten years, Kakooza grew the bar’s clientele from less than 80 a week to thousands. Revelers loved Nexus bar for the quality it brought to the party.
At the bar, Kakooza organised music shows where he invited prominent musicians such as Cindy Sanyu to perform for his guests.
He also introduced theme nights on special days such as Valentines and Independence Day that would see him sell alcohol worth hundreds of millions of dollars.
Kakooza had also diversified his business, venturing into events management.
The closure of bars following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in March this year deeply hurt Kakooza.
Kakooza and his friends were planning to hold a music festival in Kalangala at the end of this year if the Covid-19 pandemic had not taken a toll on the entertainment industry.
The nightlife business will surely not be the same again without his presence.
