Kabaka Mutebi’s Triumphant Return To Uganda Ends Months Of Speculation And Controversy

Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, resplendent in a grey suit adorned with a matching gold and grey necktie on a crisp white shirt, made his triumphant return to Uganda in the early hours of Monday morning.

The king’s arrival brings an end to months of commotion and speculation that had engulfed his absence, sparked by a section of his subjects.

This tumultuous period led to a diplomatic charade during his recuperation in Namibia, a southern African country.

Warm Reception at Entebbe Airport marks Kabaka’s homecoming

A delegation led by the Katikkiro, Owek Charles Peter Mayiga, warmly received Kabaka Mutebi at Entebbe International Airport. The Ethiopian Airlines flight ET338 from Addis Ababa touched down in the dew of midnight, ten minutes past the hour.

Among those present to welcome the king were Nnabagereka Sylvia Nagginda, Prince Jjunju Kiweewa, Nnaalinnya Lubuga Agnes Nabaloga, and Nnaalinnya Victoria Nkinzi. The Kabaka’s return was met with joy and gratitude from his loyal subjects.

In a heartfelt message shared on X (formerly Twitter), Katikkiro Mayiga expressed gratitude and relief at the Kabaka’s safe return. His post translated to, “The King has returned peacefully to his world.

We thank the doctors and attendants who looked after him.” These words encapsulate the collective sentiment of the kingdom, grateful for the Kabaka’s restored well-being.

Kabaka’s extended recuperation in Namibia cut short

Kabaka Mutebi had embarked on a private medical visit to Namibia on April 14, seeking treatment recommended by his German doctors.

The Okonguarri Psychotherapeutic Centre in Namibia’s north-western Kunene region was chosen as an ideal place for his recuperation. While the nature of his illness remained undisclosed, rumors of poisoning were dispelled by the kingdom.

However, due to the controversial actions of some subjects, the Kabaka’s prolonged stay in Namibia was curtailed.

Uninvited clan elders sparked commotion and visa denial

A group of clan elders known as ‘Bataka ba Buganda’ traveled to Namibia uninvited, purportedly to verify the Kabaka’s well-being and ensure he had not been kidnapped.

Their unsolicited presence and subsequent uproar led to the Namibian government denying an extension of the Kabaka’s visa.

The Namibian Home Affairs Ministry expressed dismay at the actions of the Kabaka’s subjects, accusing them of engaging in nefarious activities that tarnished the country’s international reputation.

Kabaka Mutebi’s health had been a concern since 2021, but his treatment and extended recuperation under the care of specialist doctors in Namibia have proven beneficial for both the king and his kingdom. The positive impact of this medical leave on the Kabaka’s well-being cannot be overlooked.

As the Kabaka returns to Bulange Mengo, the challenges that lie ahead are evident. The commotion surrounding his medical leave will need to be addressed, and the king will undoubtedly confront the repercussions of the Bataka’s ill-advised journey to Namibia.

President Museveni’s perspective suggests that both the kingdom and the nation have been embarrassed by these events, leaving questions as to what comes next.
