Katakwi District Resident Ask For Guns To Fight Cattle Rustlers

A number of residents in the Eastern District of Katakwi have requested the government to provide them with guns. This they say will enable them fight off cattle rustlers. Jorem Elakara, the LC1 chairperson of Osema village said there is a poor connection between security and residents. He attributed this flaw to the increased cattle theft in the area.

He further revealed that the renewed clashes have so far claimed the life of one resident and the loss of hundreds of animals.

However, since the locals had just been disarmed, UPDF 3rd division commander in the region said that they could not rearm them. He said the security would handle the situation in collaboration with the residents.

In November 2021, residents staged a demonstration against the persistent cattle raids by Karimojong rustlers

John Steven Ekoom, the Katakwi Resident District Commissioner said that he has already communicated to the UPDF division commander to search for the missing cattle.
