The Uganda National Musicians Federation(UNMF) under the leadership of Eddy Kenzo and Sheebah Karungi has launched a mental health campaign to help musicians and fans who are undergoing mental health problems.
Mental health has been one of the problems affecting different musicians. Some have lost their careers. Others have totally insane while others have lost their lives in unfortunate cases.
Speaking to the media, Eddy Kenzo said that some musicians actually don’t go through depression because of drugs like most people allude to. Some other scenarios can cause depression like failure to handle pressure.
He pointed out the case of singer Jackie Chandiru who was also present at the launch of this campaign. The Gold
According to the Big Talent singer, Jackie told them that people used to think that she uses cocaine. However, it was not the case because she was suffering from back pain.
She started using painkillers and reached a point when she was told to leave these tablets. But since she had got addicted to them, she couldn’t stop and continued using them. Therefore, these are some of the things that the federation wants to help in fighting.
Speaking about himself, the Semyekozo singer said that he doesn’t use anything as he puts God first. He added that it’s not like he doesn’t face some problems, he just knows how to handle pressure which is not the case with other musicians.
Apparently, several musicians such as Gift of Kaddo, Fille, Willy Mukabya, and Weasel Manizo are some of those that have undergone mental breakdowns.
Although there is pressure on these musicians to deliver, most of their depression is induced by drug abuse.
