In preparation for their first-leg matchup against Al Hilal Benghazi SC in the preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup, Uganda’s Kitara FC has flown to Libya. On Friday, August 16th, in Benghazi, Kitara will take on Muhammad Shaban’s Al Hilal Benghazi.
Early on Monday morning, the Royals departed Entebbe International Airport on Egypt Air. Before traveling to Benghazi, Libya, they will make a stopover in Cairo, Egypt.
The club has flown out 20 players who include Farouk Yawe, Chripus Kusiima, Denis Omedi, Brian Aheebwa, among others. Brian Ssenyondo, the head coach of Kitara also took with him his subordinates David Bbale, Hamza Muwonge, Issa Serwanja, and Sharon Aceng.
The head of the group is Issa Magola, and the traveling contingent also includes club president Deo Kasozi and CEO Joshua Atugonza.
The Hoima-based side will be hoping to replicate their domestic form on the continental level. This is after they knocked KCCA FC out of the FUFA Super 8 tournament at Lugogo Cricket Oval on a score of 4-3 on aggregate.
This was after the impressive displays of their forwards, Jude Semugabi and Denis Omedi. They will be hoping that the duo are in fine form and replicate the same levels shown last week. This is Kitara’s first appearance on the continental level.
Meanwhile, their qualification is as a result of their winning the Stanbic Uganda Cup last season where they beat NEC FC.
