Kitende A Game Away From 14th Title As Amus College Dash Kibuli’s Title Hopes

St. Mary’s Kitende are a game away from extending their record at the East Africa Secondary Schools football championship to 14. This is after they beat St. Henry’s College Kitovu to advance to the finals in Rwanda. The match was earlier touted to be a cracker, but Kitende shook Kitovu with an early second-minute goal.

Uganda Cranes defender Rogers Torach curled in a freekick which was brushed over with Fazil Tumwiine to head in the opener. Kitende sealed the game ten minutes into the second half through Tumwiine. He popped up to head Derrick Kato’s cross from the right wing.

St. Henry’s College cut the deficit by one. This is after second-half substitute Ronald Mutasigwa tapped the ball into the back of the net from a goal-line scramble. However, that could only count as a consolation as Kitende held on to qualify.

In the other semifinal, Amus College ejected defending champions Kibuli SS. This came through Allan Oyirwoth’s second-half strike from the spot. Oyirwoth also boosted his chances of claiming the Golden Boot after scoring his 11th goal.

St. Mary’s College Kitende and Amus College will face off in the final on Sunday as Kibuli and Kitovu fight for silver.
