The area is preparing to celebrate the birth of Christ celebrated every 25th December every year. However, the unreasonable darkness in the municipality has left the lives of Christmas celebrants and properties in the ditch.
Despite being the home of the President’s office, also doubling as an official residence, the town is too dark during the night.
The few lights that provide a dim light in the area are mounted on buildings by owners.
Ssebowa Humphrey is a shopkeeper in the town and resides in Lunyo. But whenever he is leaving his shop to go home, he walks in fear of his life, after meeting people whom he can’t recognize at a far distance since the roads are dark.
‘’Even when I’m going home, I meet policemen and soldiers patrolling, but it becomes difficult for me to differentiate between the good and bad until I come close to them,’’ said Ssebowa.
Another hawker, Atyanga Lillian encountered two men who slapped her and even made away with her cash. She said these disguised themselves as police officers enforcing curfew but in civilian clothes.
She said it was difficult to see them, before reaching their standpoint, due to the too much darkness.
A local leader, Kasujja Gerald, in Katabi town council neighboring Entebbe Municipality, said his area is also facing the same problem.
He also said that as local leaders, they are engaging with the technical wing. They want to see that they mount security lights to boost up security.
