Police yesterday announced that Okabe who is also the founder of Faith Ministries in Mbale had died on the spot after the accident. His wife who also sustained terrible injuries died while being driven to the hospital. It was only their driver who survived and is currently in hospital nursing injuries.
This accident was attributed to overspeeding by a FUSO truck driver. He apparently left his lane and ended up smashing into the car Okabe was traveling in with his wife. Police also further added that the driver of the FUSO truck seemed to have escaped unhurt. He’s currently on the run.
However credible news sources indicate that the late MP’s mother is alive though devastated and grief-stricken.
In a related news incident, an update posted by journalist Ashraf Kasirye confirmed that Paul Ssemakula Ssemwogerere, the son of the late Dr. Paul Kawanga Ssemwogerere had also died.
Ssemakula is said to have succumbed to cancer shortly after his father’s death.
“More sad news: Paul Ssemakula Ssemwogerere, son of the late elder/leader, Dr. Paul Kawanga Ssemogerere is gone, too. This comes at the time as the late MP Patrick Okabe’s mother collapsed and also died after getting sad news that her son Okabe and his wife died.”
Meanwhile, road users have been advised to be vigilant, careful, and responsible during this festive season.
