The Electoral Commission yesterday wound up the nomination of candidates for Local Government Councils by-election in Hoima.
The exercise started on Wednesday, 30 August, 2023, at Kitoba SubxCounty headquarters in Hoima. The District Returning Officer, Ms Megan Kasande presided Ofer the nomination exercise.
In total, 5 candidates were nominated to vie for the position of chairperson Hoima District.
The candidates include Patrick Musinguzi of FDC, Mugisha Uthman of NRM, Muhumuza Vincent Savanah (independent), Aguuda Moses of NUP, and Mugume Lennox (independent).
Irumba Silvest (NRM) and Tumusiime Arafat Bun Ali (NRM) were elected unopposed. They are in positions of Male Councillor representing older persons for Kabale sub county and Councillor for Buhanika sub county respectively.
Kasande said the nominees will hold campaign meetings over a period of 12 days starting today.
The polling for the by-election of the District Chirperson will happen on Thursday 14th September 2023. This will take place at all polling stations in Hoima District.
The seat for the Hoima District chairperson became vacant after the death of former chairperson, Kadiri Kirungi on 17th March 2023.
In similar news, president Museveni said that his party, the NRM will look into the parliamentary loss in Oyam District By-elections. While at this, he sent out his congratulations to the UPC candidate who emerged victorious.
It should be noted that UPC’s Eunice Otuko Apio emerged victorious with 15,718 votes in the by-election. She was however closely followed by NRM’s Engola Okello Samuel with 15,161 votes. NUP and FDC candidates didn’t even make a thousand votes.
