Lent: Christians Start Their 40-Day Fast Today With Ash Wednesday

Today Christians all over the world are starting their lent period with 40 days of fasting with Ash Wednesday. This Wednesday prepares them for the 40-day journey.

This day is mostly recognized by Catholics and Protestants all over the world. This is done in preparation for Good Friday and Easter Sunday as they remember the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Today, all over the world, all churches under the category above are going to hold service in the evening. In this service, Christians are prepared on how they are going to live in these 40 days.

At the end of the service, ash is shaded on faces and this is strictly done by the Priest. This ash is a representation of mourning and repentance from sins that have been committed.

This ash is normally got from the palm leaves that are used during Palm Sunday. Strictly, the palm leaves must have been used in Church during the celebration of Palm Sunday of the previous year.

This day is very important for Christians because it is apparently blessed and those who participate in any way are blessed as well.

During this lent period, the fasting may not completely be dry as the usual fast. Normally, during this fast, people stay away from things they love the most and instead give that time to God as they mourn over their sins.
