In an effort to raise public awareness on non-communicable diseases threats in the country, Lions Club of Uganda has partnered with Kamwokya Christian Caring Community to launch diabetes awareness campaign.
Lions Diabetes awareness and prevention project is a initiative of the lions Club of Uganda to promote healthy lifestyle in action against diabetes and other non-communicable diseases.
The initiative aims to provide useful information to help the public understand diabetes and what needs to be done to protect one against the risk of becoming diabetic.
Lions Israel Manzi Cabinet Secretary while launching the campaign in Bugolobi urged the entire public to embrace and attend the planned awareness drives to deal with all forms of diabetes diseases and high blood pressure.
Manzi said the initiative will target the youth, oldies and general public in society will be amplified in universities, market places, health centres and corporate zones.
According to Manzi close to 2 million people in Uganda are at risk of diabetes while majority of them are ignorant of prevention measures.
“its pathetic that of the diabetes in a big threat to our people. About 2 million people in Uganda are suffering from diabetes of which 50% are not aware of the prevention methods,”Manzi said,
He also said through the awareness drives the entire public will gain from free testing of the body mass index,blood pressure and hold general health talks including use of aerobics,holding regular exercises and body checks.
