According to reports, Liverpool is putting more effort into finding a replacement for Mohamed Salah, whose contract expires at the end of this season. Additionally, a player linked to FC Barcelona throughout the majority of the summer transfer window is being considered.
This is none other than Spanish and Athletic Bilbao winger, Nico Williams.
Top teams including Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, and PSG were all interested in Williams in the just-concluded summer transfer window.
The UEFA Euro 2024 winner stuck with the Spanish team in spite of the interest. After this season, the 22-year-old will only have two years remaining on his current contract. This is set to expire in 2027.
Following up his stellar 2023–24 campaign, the player made 37 appearances for Athletic Club in all competitions. He contributed to the team’s 2024 Copa del Rey win. Williams was also instrumental in Spain’s victory at the UEFA Euro 2024 in Germany.
Concerns that Salah might not decide to sign a new contract at Anfield have led multiple sources to report that Liverpool is considering wide-forwards like Williams.
The Egyptian is one of those players who has attracted widespread interest from the Saudi Pro League and might end up there once his contract with Liverpool expires.
Meanwhile, Iñaki Williams, the older brother of Nico, hopes they may stay at Athletic Club. This is so that play together for a while before he moves on, even if he is in high demand. It will be intriguing to watch how this story concludes during the summer.
