News says the bomb happened to be an Anti-Submarine Mortar bomb, probably used in the area by a weapons research facility. The bomb couldn’t be moved or disturbed until low tide due to its intensive explosiveness.
‘’We marked the site and waited until the next low tide. Then with the help of the Avon and Somerset police, set up a 2km bubble,’’ said an officer, Diver Rob.
A cordon measuring half a kilometer was set up around the device before carrying out a controlled explosion of the bomb.
This isn’t the first time WW2 bombs were found in the United Kingdom. This year alone, London police evacuated a number of streets in Central London after discovering an active bomb.
Earlier this week, another world war 2 bomb in Bristol was discovered during building work. A 64-year-old Steve Tinker discovered it while he cleared up the area. He called bomb experts who took the device away and blew it up in a controlled explosion.
Mr. Tinker said that mortar bombs were never used in Britain therefore someone could have brought it back as a souvenir.
Authorities fear that there may be more of these dangerous explosives lying around jeopardizing the lives of citizens.
