Subscribers of Lyca Mobile in Uganda woke up to an unexpected blackout last Saturday, leading to widespread panic and uncertainty. Despite being known as one of the most affordable mobile internet providers since its entry into the Ugandan market in January 2020, users found themselves unable to access internet services, make calls, or load data during the morning hours.
The service disruption prompted a surge of claims on social media platforms suggesting that Lyca Mobile was on the brink of shutting down its operations in the country.
Compounding the situation was the lack of effective communication from the company, as customers struggled to reach the company’s helplines for clarification.
Company officials later clarified that the outage was due to a significant technical fault, which was actively being addressed.
They assured users that service restoration was underway and expected to be completed within the next 24 hours.
Since its establishment in Uganda, Lyca Mobile has garnered a subscriber base of one million and expanded its network coverage to various urban areas across the country.
