Makerere University Academic Registrar Orders Colleges To Display Provisional Graduation Lists

As the graduation month draws closer, Makerere University Academic Registrar has ordered colleges to display the provisional graduation lists.

Prof. Buyinza Mukadasi announced the directive in a 9th January letter. He addressed it to all principals, deans, and Heads of Departments.

It comes a little over a month before the graduation ceremony at Makerere University. Over 12,000 students are set to graduate from the institution in a ceremony slated for February 13th to 17th of the same month.

Over the past years, some students have missed out on graduation because of failure to appear on the graduation lists. This usually happens because of failure to beat the deadline of updating marks on their student portals.

“The Students Guild Executive has informed me that some Colleges/units have not displayed the provisional graduation lists to enable the students to scrutinize, raise concerns and suggest corrective action(s) before final submission to the Academic Registrar on Friday 13th January 2023,” the letter read in part.

When the provisional lists are produced, it gives students time to rectify errors which are then updated to the lists.

However, before printing the graduation booklet, a special meeting is held to approve the graduation lists. In this case, the special meeting is set to be held on 18th January, hence the directive.

Some colleges however have already displayed these lists but an anonymous source revealed that the numbers on these lists are still low.
