The English Premier League is about to get feisty and wholesome as Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta, the championship’s top two managers seem to have declared war on each other.
The two had a press conference last evening, which was nothing short of thrilling.
It should be noted that the two managers have gone head to head for the past two seasons. However, Guardiola’s Manchester City has emerged triumphant on all occasions to lift the Premier League title.
Now, if there is something to note, it’s that this season won’t be an easier one for the City boss. This is after the scenes at the Etihad Stadium last weekend where 10-men Arsenal almost beat the Champions.
Tempers since then have been flaring amongst fans, players, pundits and now the managers themselves. Both teams will have different opponents this weekend.
City will be first in action taking on Newcastle while the Gunners will play Leicester City later on. In their respective press conferences, both managers sent out warnings to each other.
Guardiola said that Arsenal said they want war and that’s why they provoked his men. He’s therefore up for it. Additionally, he addressed Arteta’s remarks about knowing everything about City.
Read through what Guardiola said;
“You want a war? Now we war. Gabriel said it perfectly after the match. He said: this is a war, we have here to provoke the opponent, to push them. At the end, what can you do? So, we have to, okay, you provoke me, okay, I’m there!”
“Mikel said he was here four years and we know exactly what happened here. This is because it can be related in all the process now with 155 charges. Maybe it’s about that, he knows information about that maybe.”.
Arteta who was tutored by Guardiola also said that he doesn’t want to be patted on the back. This is after the game and where he was given fake compliments about how his team played.
