Nekuku village, Lunyo sub county in Busia district witnessed drama as a man believed to have died and buried surfaced in the village. Ouma Godfrey Bakko, 38, reportedly disappeared during the lockdown.
According to brother George Odwori, they received a phone call informing them of Bakko’s death. They went ahead to pick up the body for burial after the phone call. George however said, months later, another phone call left him shocked after he learned that his brother had returned.
His mother Tabitha Ajambo, says that when she received news of the death of her son, she went to Masafu hospital. However, he couldn’t identify the body that had decomposed. She said that one of the youth offered to check the body and told her that it was her son.
She however said that they were surprised when Bakko resurfaced in Busia on Wednesday. This almost gave them a heart attack.
Salim Bogere, the area LC I chairperson confirmed the incident and appealed to people to always identify bodies before they bury them.
In a related incident, a married woman who was thought to be dead reportedly showed up at her own funeral preparations. The Burundian lady, only identified as Rukundo was believed to have died in an accident.
It later turned out that it was her husband, Pastor Bakenga Kalala who had paid hitmen to kill her.
The hitmen kidnapped her as planned but could not carry forward with the killing. They told her they don’t kill women and children and thereafter released her to go after a few days.
