Andre Onana the goalkeeper for Cameroon and Manchester United has promised to return to Uganda for holidays sometime in the future. The 26-year-old was a part of the Indomitable Lions who defeated Kenya’s Harambee Stars.
This was by a goal to nil in the AFCON Qualifier game played last night at Namboole Stadium.
Onana first came to Uganda last month as Zimbabwe played Cameroon in the World Cup qualifiers. He was shown massive love from Ugandan Manchester United fans that he did not expect. This moment went viral and even reached Manchester United.
As he returned from international duty, the Kenyan football authorities decided that the game at Namboole should be played behind closed doors and that was the case.
They were afraid that the West African nation would receive massive support from Uganda. But in the end, the Cameroonians did not need the support as they took the all-important three points.
Speaking after the game, Onana said that it’s always a pleasure to represent his country. Besides, he will also make sure to return to the East African country for some extended time to connect with the fans.
“It’s always a pleasure to play for my country and the badge. I also wanted to thank the fans in Uganda as this was a very important moment for me personally. Receiving such massive love in a foreign country is never a small thing. However it’s said that we had a short time but I promise to return some time in the future for holidays and connect with the fans fully,” he said.
The former Ajax and Inter Milan shot-stopper will be returning to Manchester who have massive and crucial games coming up. He has so far kept 4 clean sheets in the Premier League despite United’s poor start.
