Manchester City player Bernardo Silva slammed Arsenal and applauded Liverpool. This was in the wake of the 2-2 draw between the two sides at the Etihad Stadium last evening.
Man City took the lead through Erling Halaand before Arsenal equalized through Riccardo Calafiori and then took the lead through Gabriel Magalhaes.
However, referee Michael Oliver dubiously sent off Leandro Trossard by issuing a second yellow card to him at the stroke of halftime.
The Gunners played with 10 men for the entirety of the second half and almost had all three points. John Stones however leveled for the hosts in the last minute of additional time.
Tempers flared amongst the players, especially at the full-time whistle, and words were also issued. Silva speaking in a post-match interview said that Liverpool was more of a worthy opponent than the Gunners. This is because the Kops were UCL and Premier League winners at some point in their rivalry with the Citizens.
The Portuguese added that Jurgen Klopp’s side who recently left the club always came to win. They faced off head to head. City however doesn’t feel the same with Arsenal as they believe that Arteta’s side always comes to defend.
“Well, perhaps because Liverpool has already won the Premier League and Arsenal hasn’t. Liverpool at that time had also won a UCL, while Arsenal hadn’t. Liverpool always faced us head-on, to win matches. From that perspective, our games against Arsenal haven’t been like the matches against Liverpool were, and still are,” he told TNT.
Although Manchester City grabbed a point at home, there were a lot of questions surrounding the referee Michael Oliver’s decision on the pitch.
This season the Gunners have been at the receiving end of some of the harshest referee decisions. This has already cost them 4 points.
