Marketed Milk Will Increase Uganda’s GDP – Minister Kabatsi

Hon. Joy Kabatsi Kafura, the current State minister for Animal industry says that the profits of marketed milk will increase from $716 million (2015) to $752 million approximately Shs2.7 trillion 2018.

While addressing reporters at Uganda Media Centre yesterday, Hon Kabatsi said in 2017,  marketed milk remained at about 80 percent total production and it might increase more after the restoration of more milk collection centers, she continued and said the amount of rural milk collected from different milk points are at 461 right now, totaling to 1,779,417 litres.

Hon Kabatsi explained this quite well!

This year’s topic is equipped regarding recognizing women’s important contribution towards dairy sub-sector specifically and agricultural sector generally and to country’s GDP and food security, ‘’ said Minister Kabasti.

The minister added that, we do have 100 milk companies which are currently operational totaling to an installed capacity of 2.7 million liters a single day. The current dairy products include UHT milk, milk powder, yogurt, ghee, ice cream, casein and butter.

The dairy month is intended to promote milk consumption. In Uganda, the companies that will lead the celebration and coordination include the agency under Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries as well as Dairy Development Authority ( DDA).

This year’s Dairy month which will be celebrated between 27th to 29th– June 2018 in Soroti district is a world-wide annual event aimed at paying tribute to contributions towards dairy farmers, exporters, importers and their families who managed to work so hard to provide fresh milk and it’s products.
