The former Leader of Opposition Hon Mathias Mpuuga has dispelled rumors of being sanctioned by the US. Tabloids ran stories yesterday stating that Mpuuga’s Visa had been revoked by the US.
This came a few days after NUP leader, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s visit to North America.
Furthermore, it was stated that it was Kyagulanyi’s efforts that Mpuuga got this ‘punishment’. Besides, it was reported that this is one of the ongoing efforts by the NUP president to see that ‘corrupt’ officials in the country are held accountable.
However, the Nyendo-Mukungwe MP took to social media platform, X to brush off the rumors. Mpuuga said that this is another of the many well-orchestrated plots by those fighting him to tarnish his name. He confirmed that the US hasn’t served any sanction against him.
“The claim that “the U.S. has revoked my visa” is the latest in a well-orchestrated hate campaign and malicious propaganda.”
It should be noted that the MP was once a close ally of Bobi Wine who he deputized in the party. They however fell out this year after rumors made rounds that Mpuuga had misappropriated funds through parliament.
Mpuuga was fired from NUP after he was involved in the 1.7b service awards scandal pocketed by the Parliamentary Commissioners. A battle both off and on social media has been ongoing within the party.
Although he was fired from the party, Mpuuga has never acknowledged this and maintains that he’s still the party’s deputy president.
Mpuuga has maintained his innocence and says that he’s just being witch-hunted by the Kavule-based party hierarchy who are afraid of him.
